The Conifa World Football Cup 2018 took place across London venues from May 31 to June 9. I attended one of the matches to determine the 9th to 16th place teams. The match is between Zimbabwe region Matabeleland and a region near Algeria, Kabylia. It’s hard to describe where they are as that’s part of the issue for these independent nations and why this international football tournament for states, minorities, stateless peoples and regions unaffiliated with FIFA and organised by ConIFA, have a chance to be recognised. I had a cracking time at the event chatting to everyone from ground staff volunteers to players via Google translate to former Liverpool FC player Bruce Grobbelaar… I know!
